I love how his face always softens when he talks to her. They understand each other on a level that neither can relate to any other character. I think Spike sums up their relationship in the fourth gif with “Well, I’m not good, and I’m okay”. They’re both (especially in the fifth season for Dawn) caught in understanding their place between good and evil.
